My Car’s Engine Is Too Loud All of a Sudden

We hate to say it but a stolen catalytic converter will increase the noise your car’s engine makes. Ideal Automotive recommends that you cut the engine and call the authorities to report the theft. You also need to call your auto insurance to see if you have coverage that will replace the catalytic converter for free. We will work with your insurance company to install a new catalytic converter. Here are signs that the catalytic converter is missing from underneath your automobile.

Illuminated Check Engine Light

The first time you start the engine after the converter has been stolen your check engine light will turn on and remain lit. The missing catalytic converter causes errors that the engine control module and system sensors detect. As such, the module will illuminate the check engine light.

A Loud and Roaring Engine

As we mentioned above, your engine will also be extremely loud if the catalytic converter is missing. It will make roaring sounds that will get louder when you pick up speed. It may be tempting to drive your automobile without the catalytic converter but the noise can become overbearing.

Jerky and Sputtering Acceleration

In addition, your automobile will suddenly develop acceleration problems because the catalytic converter is not there to take in the exhaust push from the engine. This push is forceful, and it will affect your vehicle’s acceleration when the exhaust does not head into the catalytic converter.

Sputtering at Slow Speeds

Another problem you will start to have with your automobile is your engine will sputter when you are driving slowly. For some reason, when the catalytic converter has been stolen, your engine has a problem with its low-end torque production. This is the power needed to go slow.
Exhaust Floating Into the Cabin
Aside from the engine noise, another reason why you shouldn’t drive your automobile with a missing catalytic converter is the exhaust will float into the passenger cabin. It does not continue in its route through the exhaust system because the catalytic converter is missing.

Headache or Feeling Sick

Consequently, driving your automobile will give you a headache and/or make you feel sick because you are inhaling the vehicle’s exhaust. As you know, this means you are inhaling carbon monoxide. It is a much better idea to have your vehicle towed to our shop for the new catalytic converter.

Ideal Automotive in Blaine, MN, is here to help, so call us today to schedule an appointment for a catalytic converter installation.
