My Car’s Engine Is Rumbling Like a Race Car!

If your car’s engine has started to rumble loudly, Ideal Automotive advises that you may have a hole in the muffler. The car’s engine will be particularly loud when you press down on the accelerator and the muffler may pop, as well. Another thing that will make the engine rumble loudly like a race car is a stolen catalytic converter. Rumbling is just one noise the engine should not make. Here are other noises.

Grinding

Hopefully, you will never hear your engine grind. A grinding engine can be an engine without motor oil. If you drive an automobile without motor oil, it will take less than 30 minutes to kill the engine. As such, if you hear grinding noises coming from your engine, it’s best to pull over and call for a tow truck. Play it safe to avoid causing unnecessary engine damage that will also be quite expensive.

Knocking

Hopefully, you won’t hear your engine knock, either. A knocking engine could be a sign that it’s time to replace the rod bearings. When they wear down, they jiggle the rods and knock the pistons against the cylinder walls. Your engine can also make a knocking sound if there is a problem with the detonation. For example, worn spark plugs will detonate out of order or too many times.

Sizzling

If your engine sounds as if it is frying bacon, you’ve got a fluid leak. The engine parts get extremely hot while the engine is running. Consequently, if fluid makes contact with them, it will start to sizzle as it burns away. It’s important to determine which fluid is leaking as soon as possible to avoid damaging the engine. For example, an oil leak can reduce the amount of oil circulating through the engine.

Squealing

There are a couple of auto parts that will squeal when they go bad. The first one is the power steering pump, although it is more likely to groan. If the pump squeals, however, it will do so when you turn the wheel. The second part is the accessory belt, and it can really scream when you first start your automobile. We can determine which part is squealing and replace it if necessary.

Tapping

Finally, the exhaust system will tap or pop if it is leaking. The most common places from where an exhaust system leaks are the hoses, the muffler, and the exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifold also has a gasket that will tap if it is leaking. It’s easiest to hear the tapping at start-up.
